Caitlyn Jenner was born William Bruce Jenner. He attended college on a football scholarship but had to quit football due to a knee injury. He then began training for track and field. In 1972, he competed in the 1972 Olympics in Germany. He won a gold medal for the Decathlon in the Olympic Summer Games in 1976. He became world famous and was featured on Wheaties cereal boxes and was a spokesperson for the company for many years.

In 1997, he participated in the TV reality show “Keeping up with the Kardashians” with his wife at the time. However, he made headlines when he admitted that he had begun transitioning from male to female in the late 1980s. In 2015, Bruce Jenner transitioned to become Caitlyn Jenner and was on the cover of the June 2015 issue of Vanity Fair.

The LPGA has seen women’s golf take a back seat to men’s tournaments for years and in 2008, began activities and conferences aimed at raising the status of women’s and girls’ golf. One of the activities that has drawn female sports athletes together is the ANA Inspiration Tournament. This year the tournament was held March 28 – April 3 at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, which has been the site of the event since 1972. The tournament was first started by Dinah Shore who was the very first female to ever host an LPGA event. The winner of this year’s Tournament was Lydia Ko, one of the youngest female professional golfers.

Along with female sports celebrities, such as Olympic swimmer Missy Franklin, golfer Lydia Ko, para-olympian Jessica Long, and many others, Caitlyn Jenner has agreed to participate and help promote women’s golf and encourage young girls to learn to golf.
