Two American and two Canadian entries for Women Golf at Rio

Golf is back to the Olympic Games for the first time since 1904. All competing countries have two women entries except the US which has three.

Canadians Alena Sharp and Brooke Henderson will represent their country at the Rio Games. Sharp, ranked 81st by Rolex ranking turned professional in 2003, before joining the LPGA Tour in 2005. She has been playing very well and has nine professional wins in her career.

Henderson, according to Rolex rankings, is ranked third in the world. She won her first championship during the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June this year. She has also won the LPGA Tour three times. She is a favorite in Rio considering that she has 11 top finishes in 20 events this year and that she won twice in June.

Americans, Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson will represent their country in the Brazil Olympics. Lewis is ranked 7th according to Rolex world rankings. She has played well in the past weeks having finished inside the top-7 in her last three starts.  She is an 11-time winner on Tour, which includes two-time major championships.

Thompson turned professional in 2010 and, in 2011, she set a new world record as the youngest winner ever of an LPGA tournament. She is a major champion ranked 4th in the Rolex rankings and has won seven times while on Tour. She was a winner in Thailand during the LPGA, and she has ten professional wins in her career.
