What you should know about RAMA

The RAMA means Rolex Annika Major Award. It was established in 2014, in order to award the best performance in the championships in the year. RAMA was named after Annika Sorenstam, Hall of Famer. Sorenstam is happy because she can continue her cooperation with LPGA and Rolex, after her retirement. She announced that she is very happy because she choose her. They could choose some other player, but they chose her. In addition, she is hoping that they will inspire young and professional golfers in the world of golf.

Only champions of the major championships in a year (Ricoh Women’s British Open, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, ANA Inspiration, Evian Championship and U.S. Women’s Open) can receive the annual Rolex Annika Major Award. The player with the most points will receive the award. Those points are awarded during the all 5 championships. Points are allocated: 60 (1st place), 24 (2nd place), 18 (3rd place), 14 (4th place), and so on for 10 places.

The only, major, winner of the year is Brittany Linciome. She is an ANA Inspiration champion and she has 60 points. Stacy Lewis has 24 points, which is enough for 2nd place and Morgan Pressel has 18 points which will provide her 3rd place. The winner of the Rolex Annika Major Award will be officially published at the Evian Championship.
Michelle Wie received her award in 2014. She won the U.S. Women’s Open and runner-up finish (ANA Inspiration). She had total 84 points. Inbee Par was second with 76 points and Lexi Thompson had 70 points, so she was 3rd.
